UTAN Ban Manager 102 Released

We have now released a new version of the ban manager for UTAN.

What's new in version 1.02?

The UTAN ban manager's most important new feature in version 1.02 is the incremental ban list update. This means less bandwidth traffic for you and for us. A nice side effect of this new feature is that the ban list can now be updated any time the Ban Manager connects to the UTAN server, not only at map startup. This will make enforcing bans and subsequent re-enforcement much more efficient.
You can download the new version from either the UTAN download area, or from inside the UTAN website.

Can you explain that in a little more detail?

By incremental, is there a handshake to quickly verify when the actor last connected and that it only sends bans that are newer than the last check?

I have some ban types enabled and others refused. Are they ALL sent to me and the options I set on the server applied after they are received?

Wormbo 12th March, 2006 01:56 PM

The "incremental" part is really simple: Initially the entire list is sent along with information about the last modification of the ban data as seen by the masterserver. Now, when the game server requests an update (i.e. when a new map starts), it sends the "last modification" date from the previous update with its request and the UTAN masterserver only sends details about bans that were added, modified or deleted since then, as well as a new "last modification" date.
Previous versions of the ban manager always requested the entire list on map start. This new version only requests the entire list if you told it to do so or if it's unsafe to do an incremental update because you changed the options since the last update. The decision, which bans to send is done on the UTAN masterserver. The game server simply accepts all bans it receives.

Thanks. I suspected it was fetching more than it needed to each time.

Curious that the code size seems to have tripled too. Anything else in there that's dormant/incomplete?

great dude i will upload it to my 3 servers tonight if they die down for abit

It uses the LibHTTP package now. Previous versions used a self-made HTTP client for fetching the bans, but it lacked some features I needed for the new version and I didn't feel like rewriting it. ;)

gibt es irgendwo eine deutsche anleitung bzw. erklärung zu utan ?
ich bin im englischen nicht so bewandert.

meine gameserver UT2004:
85.114.152.157:7777
und
195.4.106.38:7777

beide laufen momentan ohne utan, da ich nicht weis was man einstellen muss.

BITTE um HILFEEEEEEEEEEE

Where is that new "BanDatabaseName" file that contains the ban list? I'd like to verify it is there and everything is working properly after updating but I cannot seem to find any file with the name starting with "UTAN102BanDatabase". I see the update info showing in the logs.

VorteX 15th March, 2006 11:54 PM

I beleive it's in the ut2004/saves directory.

Wormbo 16th March, 2006 09:38 AM

Correct. It's a binary file though, so you might not actually be able to verify the bans it contains.
However: If it didn't work, you'd be seeing complete ban list downloads after every map change.

IS this the UTAN 2.0 that limited mentioned or is that anothe project? Also wish there was a way to get global bans in there I got hit 7 times last night by the same nforce asshole and when we banned his ip's cause his GUID kept changing he just left and hit my friends servers. :(

Limited 5th April, 2006 03:39 PM

This is only an upgrade to the UTAN 1.0 server actor bringing it to version 1.02. UTAN or TAN 2.0 is still in the works.

Ok thanks, My 101 stopped working so I guess I'll update. Any info on what UTAN 2.0 is and when it will be released? Botters killing me :(

Wormbo 5th April, 2006 04:15 PM

UTAN is not a cheat-detection tool, version 2 will not change that.

Ga8or 5th April, 2006 04:24 PM

Oh well was hoping some kind of cheat detection tool would appear :)

Imaginos 5th April, 2006 10:34 PM

TAN is a specialized app and will only do what it does best. Leave the cheat detection to apps that want that duty. ;)

Ga8or 6th April, 2006 12:57 PM

Well no one seems to want to do cheat detection anymore :(

Imaginos 6th April, 2006 04:53 PM

Well, considering it's a non-stop job with no pay.. Yeah, I can see there being so few takers.

2007 is coming soon, and as much as I would hate to see it, I think punkbusters might start getting some money from the franchise at last.

ICESNAKE 20th September, 2006 01:26 PM

Doesn't work on FragOps 2.16 Server :(

Countering native with uscript code is an exercise in futility. Now, if only El_Muerte would share the warlock code with someone trustworthy...
