Running UT on a Synology NAS

Hi everyone!

It's been awhile... way too long

..but sindce i have a very good connection a.t.m. (500/500mbps) i'd really like to host a UT99 gameserver like back in the good 'ol days ;)

I was wondering though if anyone managed to host a UT99 gameserver on a Synology NAS?

Thx!

Download and start the full server optimized http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/f...php?f=9&t=2305

You can find it at your Lan ip 192.168.?.? with UT brother.

For other Players open ports http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/u...er%20ports.txt
And give your Wan ip for connect http://whatismyipaddress.com/fr/mon-ip

Thanks a lot bro!

All things you described are (and were) clear to me, but the challenge for me lies into installing UT onto my Synology NAS.

I don't have a clue how and where to upload the gameserver files to and how to start/stop server?
Do i need SSH into my NAS? Do you have experience with this?

I ran several UT servers in the past hosted by i3d and gameservers.com and i'm experienced with the UT config/ini's and such, but bringing a gameserver to my NAS is a new challenge to me.

Thx again! :)

Not sure if this help you.
I know home server but not NAS.

Microsoft provides an OS partion especially for this use (SIN advanced): http://windows.microsoft.com/fr-fr/w...er/#T1=protect , the functionality and simplicity of a NAS, while having a true Windows server.

What operating system does the NAS use? IF Linux then you'll need to SSH into the NAS and install the game. It's highly recommended to create a new, regular user to run the game. Daniel Gibbs has a very useful script for installing UT servers on Linux. I'd suggest you give it a shot.

http://danielgibbs.co.uk/lgsm/ut99server/

It will only work with a Debian or Redhat based system though. From what I gather DSM (Synology DiskStation Manager) isn't based on any distributions of Linux. Therefore, you'll probably end up having to install a crap ton of dependencies and most of them you'll probably have to compile from the source.

I'd suggest just running the script I gave you above as a non-root user and see what it says.
