Help Enabling Skaarj Skins... Must be Missing Something...

Hello:

I have decided to stop using the Valhalla Avatar (VA) which enables any user to view any skin. Now skins will be controlled the old fashion way :p On my test server, however, I cannot get the Skaarj, War Cow, or Nali skins to work.

When using the Nali or War Cow skins I always see the Male Commando model. When I try to use the Skaarj skins, I always see the Male Commando model sometimes with a pseudo-Skaarj skin and always with Skaarj jumping sounds.

I have installed all the files installed from the UTBonusPack and thought I edited my .ini correctly. I made sure the following server packages were enabled: TcowMeshSkins, TnaliMeshSkins, TskMSkins and EpicCustomModels.

1) You have multimesh listed twice (once as MultiMesh and again as multimesh)-- serverpackages are case insensitive, so it's not needed twice.

2) You don't need the ".u" on the end of server package names... just whatever comes before the .u, .utx, .umx, .uax or whatever extension of the package.

3) There may be problems with the order you've added the server packages... alphabetical order usually isn't the way it's done. I'd suggest moving these packages near the top in this order:

ServerPackages=MultiMesh
ServerPackages=EpicCustomModels
ServerPackages=TCowMeshSkins
ServerPackages=TNaliMeshSkins
ServerPackages=TSkMSkins
ServerPackages=AdvancedModelSupport

Thanks for the reply Dave.

I updated the .ini as you suggested; however, the Skaarj, Nali, and Nali Cow are still not visible. When either of these three are used the model is swapped with the Male Commando skin. I did notice... this is interesting... that upon death the corpse will change into a Skaarj, Nali or Cow. But the player spawns again as a Male Commando.

Hermskii, no I don't have the setting that forces default skins set to true :p

All of the other skins work smoothly... even fan-created skins... it's just the 3Epic skins listed above that are not functional.

I see a lot of stuff that maybe bugging ,youre using 2 diferent kinds of splash logo's .
2 versions smartctf: 1 EUT, 1 smartctf.
I saw utpure is removed and replaced with chsp.
2 versions of a mapvote:MapVoteLA13,BDBMapVote304
and serverpackages are limited to 256 characters

SixtSense, I made the corrections as you suggested and still no luck. I updated the .ini linked above with the new changes.

Any more ideas? I want to get rid of VA because I’m tired of black skins on my server; however, as Skaarj skins are a popular choice I would like to have that skin working before making the change.

This works on my Linux server

But like Dave said, ServerPackages should be case insensitive?

I would suggest putting these at the start of package list in this order:

ServerPackages=EpicCustomModels

Thanks MrWhite… tried it and no luck.

I also tried disabling all unnecessary Server Actors and Server Packages—still no luck. Could there be some other setting elsewhere that could be causing this issue?

Try uploading the default skins that come on the UT CD to your server. Usually a server will give you low detail textures already installed. Check your current texture (skin textures) size on your PC with the ones on your server. They should be a bit bigger on your PC than on the server.

Upload the bigger ones to the server and they should work.

I had this problem and that's what I did.

I don't know how you set the 'Force Default Skin' thing, but on my server I had an instance where even though the setting was false, it still acted like it was true until I cycled the setting from the menu (maybe there is an internal setting that doesn't get refreshed properly or something). I also have this section, which I didn't see in your posted .ini (it seems to be for the menu item, but might be worth toggling to see if it resets things):

Are u sure it is a server problem ?
Nobody can't see the SkaarjSkin?
I ask this cuz i can't see the SkaarjSkins either anymore.
But i can still hear the Skaarj footsteps
It's just a problem with my UT,,
Dunno what to do about,, but reinstall UT will help i guess !
