We started seeing this a while ago and have been pursuing it with no luck.

Maybe it's time for a fresh look from a different viewpoint. - Any ideas please?

Other ancillary facts:
[list:f67aaf706d]In this particular example, it happened shortly after entry into the server. However, exactly when it's fatal is truly random. Sometimes you almost get through a whole round, sometimes not.

Changing the renderer (D3D, OpenGL, etc.) doesn't make it go away, although the Software Renderer seems to last the longest.

The text in the GPF varies and is dissimilar in every case as are the actual "Forgeries" if that's what they are.

The OS in use doesn't matter, it effects Win98 and Win2k machines as well as others with varying degrees endurance.

The server's been clean installed several times over the course of looking for this one. OS's have been Win98se and Win2k. Presently UT 451, but happens at 436 too.

Clients 451 and 436 both exhibit problem

The server logs are unremarkable.[/list:u:f67aaf706d]
I can't think of too much else except that it may be related to a change in ISP at the server, but that's only guesswork as there's been no test that has turned up a tangible difference or any plausible explanation either. The only test that does occasionally show positive is that packets sometimes arrive "Out of Sequense".

Here's another log excerpt with F6 hit, and packet info in it.


As you can see, there's a high correlation between extra packets showing up and these "Forged Object" errors and some "Non-open packet" errors (obviously thrown in for good measure).

The client even threw in a GPF during the exit cleanup, just for added entertainment.... wasn't that special?

I'm having trouble understanding the problem. This is occuring on the client or the server? If it's the client, then is it a single computer or multiple computers?

Thanks for the answer. I was just posting to one of your questions!

Yeah, it happens in multiple clients and on differing connections. (IE Dialup, PPPoE DSL, DSL and Cable modem clients). But it is intermittant.

It seems that we've isolated this issue to the client's Firewall.

The Firewall is a Linksys BEFSR41 firmware 1.42.6 March 11, 2002
The most recent version, 1.45.7, was found to induce Forged Object errors and had additional issues with SSL connections. Consequently it was removed in favor of the older version.

This firewall and many firmware revisions have been used on UT server apps for several years.

This is why it was so surprising to discover that it was the problem.

The configuration of the server is not at issue, only that of the client pc.
[list:19294960d2]The ISP is VerizonAvenue and they utilize PPPoE connections.

Using a Software PPPoE (WinPoet) client, the connection was tested with several game servers and found to work without error.

By re-installing the Linksys and using the internal PPPoE client on it's WAN port, the problem returned.

Substituting another manufacturer's Firewall and using it's PPPoE client, the test was repeated.

No errors have been observed since.[/list:u:19294960d2]
The conclusion is that while this Linksys router was satisfactory for other types of WAN connections, the PPPoE implementation leaves something to be desired.

Further testing is planned, and results will be posted.
