Can an admin both play & spectate?

To be clear, I'm not currently hosting... but I hope to be again sometime in the next couple years.

I know that via console commands you can switch teams, which I'm admittedly fuzzy on the specifics of, but I was wondering on something else.

Is it possible for an admin to be in spectator mode and then switch (while a game is still going on) into player mode? And then maybe back again, without starting the game over??

You can but you're either/or not both. So if you're playing, you can reconnect as a spectator and then reconnect back as a player. A while back the ASC/NEXGEN would allow you to do that with the !PLAY and !SPECTATE commands I believe.
