No he isn't.
There are some different views on this:
Azrael is the (outcast) archangel of death, banned from heaven (or something like it). Azrael is a personification of Death (like Grim reaper, Thanatos, Anubis, ...). Azrael could also be seen as the devil.
Azazel is a watcher of god, or a goat like demon, a minion of the antichrist.
... something like that, it's pretty much a mess that whole mythology ...
In terms of power Azrael (Death) would kick Azazel's ass.

Saw the movie "Fallen" on dutch television yesterday starring: Azazel.
Movie was ok-ish. At least the ending wasn't typical Hollywood... |
