One thing to watch out for is that Ubuntu and some other distros have adopted a new entry in
/etc/hosts in order to work around a problem with among others GNOME. This entry defines the hostname as
127.0.1.1 and the ut3 server (erroneously in my opinion) binds the query port to the IP that the hostname resolves to. To check if this is the problem, run
netstat -nulp and verify that the query port (defaults to 6500) is bound to
0.0.0.0. If it isn't, comment out the above mentioned entry in your hosts file or change the IP to reflect your machines real IP and it will work.
I've reported this to Ryan and hopefully it will be fixed in a later patch.
