What Is A Standard Server?
Currently on the admin lists there are differences of opinions on what defines a standard server.
Epic state a server which (amongst other things) is running no mutators.
Some server admins are saying they agree but allow the NoSuperWeapons and NoAdrenaline mutators to be used without the server being removed from the standard list.
What do you think?

If it changes the weapons configuration in any way, then it should not be listed as a standard server. Admin mutators should be able to be added without the server being removed.

I think the real problem is the average understanding of what "Standard" means. If the user doesn't read the manual (let's face it, how many do), then it can be very confusing.

A standard server is a server that is running any mutator that does not affect gameplay, i.e. AntiTCC, UTSecure, VASSTS etc. are examples of mutators that do not affect gameplay and should be considered 'Standard'

Well if it's a Normal Weapons Server: -> NoSuperWeapons
if it's a Instagib Server: -> NoAdrenaline

I personally think that (having voted "other") a Standard Server should be free of custom maps too... If you're going to be as strict as Epic is being, they might as well go the full nine, not discriminate against mods... Gotta think about those poor folks still on dialup, right?
And everyone knows that Instagib = Non-standard, right?! Gotta love it... <sigh>

The big issue is if that damn little box should be defaulted off or on. OFF I SAY.
Now, if it came with the game, it's standard. If you have to download it, it's none standard.
I started 1 of the first LGI servers back in UT. I run one now in UT2004 and it's NEVER full (usually empty).

Well the admin list is finally getting more constructive. There are a few good suggestions floating around which would serve both Epic's and server admin needs.

Probably one of the most debated topics on there since it went up. Well, perhaps second to the thread about the tick rates

When you kill 6 people in Unreal Tournament it's a "Monster Kill", in Quake3 it's "Excellent", and in Counter-Strike it's "Kick Banned"

UTComp shouldn't stop your server from being "Standard"

This was debated, and it WILL make your server un-standard, it changes gameplay too much.

i don't really like the vote options.
on a standard server may be one mutator for ads, one for stats and so on but _NO_ mutator that modifies gameplay like TTM and UTComp do - That is in no way a "standard" ut game...

IMO it's all default settings...no mutators, things left untouched (weapons and ESPECIALLY adrenaline...)

Agree 100%. My 2k3 server always had traffic. My 2k4 server sits unused most of the time.

If it came with the game, then it's standard. No questions asked.
Like a car. Its stock, until you add stuff to it. Reguardless if it comes with a turbo, it's still stock. Now, when you begin to get bigger turbos, down pipes, ect... It's no longer "stock".
Same applies with servers. If it comes with the game, it's standard. If it doesn't come with the game, it's not standard.
These rules can be bent slighty with some "mods". These mods will have nothing to do with gameplay; but rather admin tools, cheat protection, and other add-ons such as that.

Standard Server = Out of box server with any mutators that do not alter game play experience.
That should mean any mutator that doesn't change the gameplay sould be ok, like UT2Vote, Security mutators, and other admin tools should be allowed.
The debate is that many people want to define their own version of "Standard".

a standard server, imo, is any server that uses out of the box mutators, and other mutators that do not affect gameplay, ie ut2vote, security, etc. There's communities with their own gametypes, ie lgi 135 ctf... all out of the box
edit: the whole standard server thing was a dumb idea in the first place

imo there are two kind of mutators
the ones who are altering the gameplay
and others who are used to admin a server -for example
a chatfilter ,teambalancer etc...
btw. i would like to see epics definition of a standard-server since a lot of mutators come with the game or bonuspacks
is the ECE bonuspack still standard although it replaces vehicles in ons games?

I think a standard would be nothing custom anything that came with the original game. its when you get into all the new weps and new mods levels thats not standard
