Bandwidth usage
Has anyone noted a higher bandwidth usage over 2k4? I have a 24 man vCTF server running and when full it is averaging around 2MB/sec. This is a demo server running on Windows 2003. I wouldn't have expected it to be this high. Do you think the dedicated server release will be optimized to prodice lower bandwidth usage?

The unit on the left side is bit / s, so this would mean 2mbit per seconds, that sounds completley reasonable and will be the same in the release. thats about 12KB/s per User.
2MB / s in contrary would mean 100KB/s per user, which most users don't even have as an upstream, so thats just impossible.

Even distribution between upload and download?
Just curious if the client downloads more from the server than it uploads. I would imagine them to be about equal but since you have the spiffy graphs, I thought you could tell me for sure.
The reason i ask (if it isn't obvious) is to gauge how many users I can safely open up on my home connection, which is 356kbit up/20Mbit down, without suffering lag. (I am sure there are other factors as well but i am just interested in the basics for now.)
Thanks!

Yes. Client always downloads more than it uploads. It uploads info on itself but has to frequently receive info on everyone else and and other game events.

I think that the default MaxClientRate in UT3 is twice what it was in UT2004. Its been a long time but I think that UT2004 had a default rate of 5000 and UT3 is 10000. This would explain the increase of bandwidth, but I would always assume 100kbps/client. Of course these values are configurable in the .ini.

UT2004 was 10000 as well. And yes you can change the values in the ini

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I didn't pay attention to the scale on the left there. I assumed it was Bytes. That's what I get for assuming. The math works out this way. Thanks again.

Ok, we got a CTF Server wich is always full with 24 ppl.
Our network meter says that this use not more than 240kb/sec Bandwith (in and Out). So UT3 is very bandwith friendly
