I've done a complete re-installation from my original UTGOTY. I installed the Loki patch for Linux. Deleted my local .loki directory. Connected to a server and was given the dreaded impurity 89291... again. I even downloaded the *.u files that the previous poster had made available (original 436 *.u files) and installed those over my virgin installation and ZIPPO.
Maybe my UTGTOY was originally a 432, that was patched via the Loki patch to 436. Even so, UTPure should not detect this as a cheater.
These false positives have dropped off probably every Linux/Mac user from most servers as 6b continued to propogate.
6c hasn't reached my favorite servers yet.
No amount of virgin install has helped. If you know of 6c compliant servers, please post a list... I'd like to test against it.
I haven't played UT for months now. I've started looking into other games over this (eg. TRIBES, UT2003). People have been complaining about this problem since last year in November. I would hate to think that this UTPure problem having gone unaddressed for about half a year might have resulted in a quiet mass defection of devoted gamers from UT.
Please make this work for us.
For starters things like the following would help:
* Do parrallel testing of UTPure releases on a variety of Windows, Linux and Mac platforms. These are the target platforms of your audience.
* A list of servers with 6c installed so we can test and quickly report back our findings. Extra 15points if you run the servers yourself.
* Gather test results from a variety of Windows, Linux and Mac users who are just gamers hitting the test servers and verify success reported from all of them BEFORE releasing the next UTPure.
I will admit that I have never been a part of the UTPure devel group... I've just been playing UT online, but I am so sure that at least these two steps could avoid problems like this impurity debacle.
I think everyone would be suppotive of this.
