Using 16 Bit
Is it forbidden to run the game in 16 Bit?
Its an option in the GameSettings.
How can an admin know if u run game in 16/32 Bit?

As a player, I got a nice comp so I play 32 Bit but it happens I play on a slower one and then I use 16 Bit.
As an admin if its an option in GameSettings u can use it.Right?
Btw whats not strictly forbidden (aimbots) is allowed on my servers.I thought it was same everywhere

I see nothing wrong in running 16 Bit. I did on my old puter.

Hmm, that ban ID was about me. I also see nothing wrong at it. It is a option within the game, so it cannot be called unfair/lame. Everyone can use it. And it simply runs smoother (at least here).

16 bit a cheat? I can tweak my ini to make 32 bit look worse and run faster than 16 bit, so what's up with that? And if 16 bit could remotely be considered a cheat, the why not do what the game Pariah did, and remove the dodge? Gamepads can make it where you can constantly dodge over and over again, and there's people who can dodge further than the game allows in the first place, plus when you land, if you bind a shot your game resets to headshot level, and you get a headsnot (no, thats with the goo gun, I meant headshot sorry) if you are aimed head on. So in effect, you get the characteristics of a speed hack sort of when dodging with certain game pads. Is this not unacceptable, or are the people who decide these things running the game pads and don't want to give up their tactical advantage? There's a couple of clans who come to our server and hippity hop their silly asses all over the place, and it pisses me off royally. If they want to do that on their server, I think fine, but don't come taking advantage of people on our server, is my opinion, but I know I'm over ruled by people who think that having better binds, or better equipment equates to "skill", so I have learned to keep my mouth shut, and just leave the server until they are gone.

Sour grapes? No, I just know that there are people who are decent players who don't do all of that, and they stand no chance against these yahoos, and they get miserably pwned, and the chances of them coming back to our server are slim if these wisenheimers keep coming in there.

I'd like to see the dodge (though used as is, it's a great tool) removed because of the abuse.

It'll never happen, but I can at least bring it up.

16-bit performance should actually be worse than 32-bit since the colours and textures are being interpolated. Also, I read a scrap of information somewhere that there are some odd effects with 16-bit display like being able to see through some objects.

Depends on your card and desktop settings whether or not 16 bit is better or worse.
I use to have a TNT2 PCI and had to play some of the big maps in 16 bit or they were unplayable. When I got my geforce I switched to 32 but I noticed with this card that playing in 16 bit allows to see thru some textures, but theres no real advantage because you try to shoot someone and then find theres a wall or somthing in the way.

Is this only about ut2003/4? I use 16 bit opengl for ut99.

The stock opengl driver gives that effect of seeing thru some areas but
it's kind of an illusion because the people are really somewhere else.

So it's just a buggy driver. It's the same 32 bit as it is 16 in this instance.
I don't think anyone uses that driver for long because the others are much
better. Is there really anything different, as far as cheating, between
16 and 32 bit?

I've tried 16 bit in ut2004 and didn't see any kind of unfair advantage with
it. And as Azura said, it did give me less frames per second and looked
just ugly overall.

If there is any Admin that thinks that 16 Bit is a cheat please let us know why . Maybe there is something we are missing.

There is a adventage you have with it in UT2004. You can see people a little bit through secret walls if they are standing close to it. But they have to stand really close to it! And you can see secret places better, because you see the shape of it. Besides that there are not other adventages I have. But I have actually the same amount of frames per second as with 32 bit. But with 32 bit it feels like I am running with 50 kg on my back (as someone once said )
I use a Radeon 9700 Pro btw. Windows settings on 16 bit too.

As an admin that pisses me off.
And i had seen somewhere else but i can't remember where someone had been banned for rolloff
Btw I got a technical question even if meaby it'd better take place in the serveradmin section:
How can an admin know if someone uses 16 Bit or has low down his rolloff to 0.4?
Can these settings justify a UTAN ban

Also, when ut first came out, 3dfx Voodoo cards were promoted along with it.
These are 16 bit cards. I imagine there are a lot of people still using them
and would benefit from setting ut2004 to 16 bit as well.

[edit]If I remember right, when i had my voodoo card, 32 bit wasn't even
available as an option.

Anything justifies a UTAN ban. An admin can use UTAN to ban you just because he does not like you. UTAN is a ban manager, there is no "good" or "bad" reason for a UTAN ban as all it does is keep track of your bans for you, as you know, an admin can ban you from his server for any reason he wants to and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
As to banning 16 bit users, there are bad admins just as there are bad players. I have seen admin wanting to be able to force players to set a specific resolution, brightness and contrast on thier monitors or have them kicked from the game because using different settings then everyone else was a "cheat".

falke6830 I am gonna take a wild guess that your Us3le$$ I mean your the only server admin who lets people bot on his server. And your run a site that host bots, which really isn't a site at all. I am pretty sure its you because of your server host matches the one your advertising. What i don't understand is why your asking here if its a cheat you bot yourself why does it really matter. Thought i just add my 99 cents.

I've recently banned a dude already banned by UTAN but who had kept botting on one of my servers and is 1st in some insta ranking.
I 've anticheats on my servers except for the demo one.But that's true when I catch up someone cheating on my server, I usually have a talk with him and always give another chance....

My stats are decent but are not those of a cheater.
I began playing UT2k4 using the game and GUID of my nephew but when I realized he and some of his friends were beginning to be banned from all good servers for cheating or annoyance I bought the game and never had troubles.

UTAN is a ban manager and will not restrict the reasons admins have for banning people. End of discussion. If an admin thinks 16bit is cheating and requires banning, well be it.
