View Full Version : Subscribe to other admins' ban lists

I think a good feature would be to be able to "subscribe" to other admins' ban lists. We all like to maintain full control over our servers, but there are those we trust enough to share ban info with. Relationships can sour though, so being able to unsubscribe would be a key part of it.

This would also allow those that have their servers being used for competition to temporarily subscribe to a master ban list for that ladder.

That's a feature in UTAN2 - I have no idea how that project is progresssing. There hasn't been any news on it for a while now.

Were still working on it, instead of GISP's were moving to single accounts where you add buddies and you download their lists to the servers.

You will be able to ignore individual buddy bans.

Hmmm. At the moment any admin in a GISP can edit/remove bans for other admins in the group, which is great. Would be good if that level of trusted admin ban edit/remove can continue.

The addition of buddy bans is going to be great. Looking forward to adding banlists from Jolt/other trusted servers.

The problem I can see with a buddy list system is people just adding everyone to harvest GUIDs. But, since this project seems to be on the back burner, hopefully epic will have fixed GUID spoofing come ut2k7.

That's a common misconception, people can not fake your cd key with just your GUID....they need to have the hash of your CD Key aswel. (the GUID is actually a hash of the hash of your cd key, tho that's not a very clear way to explain it :))

It's perfectly safe to post GUID's.

Meh! I thought there might be news of UTAN2 posted here.

Is UTAN 2 canned or still progressing?

Do you guys know if UTAN 2.0 be easily portable to UE3?

Yes. That is, if it ever gets finished. ;)

Any word? Sharing buddy lists = win

Manually sharing ban lists = win too.

with a manually shared banlist, doesn't each admin who wants those bans added to theirs have to hand enter each one? during 2k3-2k4, our clan regularly manually shared bans with 3-4 clans. Any ban enforced on any of those 10-12 servers had to be sent to each of the admins and entered by hand.

how hard would it to be to create a list feature?

on the server end, you could implement it like this

[UTANv2.1a.SubcribedBanLists]
ClanA(aimbot=true, other=true, annoyance=false)
ClanB(aimbot=true, other=true, annoyance=true)
ClanC(aimbot=true, other=true, annoyance=true)
LadderA(aimbot=true, other=true, annoyance=true)
LadderB(aimbot=true, other=true, annoyance=true)

etc.etc.

where Clan and Ladder names match the "published" lists of each of those organizations.

being able to add those lines of text, or ones that serve the same function for retrieval/management of banlists, would have saved me and 3 or 4 other admins hundreds of combined manhours in the last three years.

don't get me wrong, I love UTAN, and can't believe that I waited until early 2006(?) to install it; but going forward for UT3, the shared banlist would save many people much time and allow much faster reaction times across UT communities when repeatacheaters (old cheater, new guid) returned again and again.
