Nexgen Server Controller v1.12

Description
Nexgen is mod for dedicated Unreal Tournament servers to facilitate server administration tasks. Rather than having the execute console commands or edit configuration files, Nexgen allows server administrators to change settings and perform actions in game via an user friendly interface. Nexgen also provides several useful features that are commonly desired, such as spawn protection, message logging and a ban system. The complete feature set is quite extensive and can best be studied by looking at all the available options in the Nexgen control panel interface. Finally Nexgen has support for plugins so that extra features can be added.

Nexgen and ASC share absolutely no code. No idea about which cheat protections it works with though. The coder is a brilliant fellow, though, so anything you report to him (I would imagine) he would address promptly.

I did a few tests on a server with UTPure and EUT.

Noticed a couple of things:

- I am not able to pick up flags. This was after forcing a match start with Nexgen. I have not tried it with other people on the server.

- It does not recognize the EUT gametypes. In stead you have two entries for each standard type (DM/TDM/CTF). Both entries are treated the same, ie. BotPack.CTFGame for both CTF entries.

I'll mess around with it some more if I find the time.

Ran into that with ASC too... you have to specifically program exceptions for the classes :(

Sorry for the late reply (been a bit busy lately).

I'm not really sure what caused the exploit in ASC758, however I don't think Nexgen is vulnerable to the same exploit as the code isn't based on any of the previous server controllers and it doesn't use mutate commands (except for the additional keybinds).

Currently Nexgen hasn't been tested with the latest cheat protection mods, so I guess you'll just have to try and see if it works ok. I don't expect there to be any issues but if they do arise let me know and I'll try to deal with them in the next version.

Support for EUT and UTPure has been added to the next version. However you won't be able to use the warmup feature of UTPure and the new Nexgen message HUD won't be available for UTPure either.

I've added the latest version of the controller to the first post. Not much has changed since the previous version, a few bug fixes and a compatibility mode for UTPure (automatically enabled if UTPure is detected on the server). Because of the restrictive nature of UTPure you won't be able to use the Nexgen message HUD. Also the warmup feature of UTPure will not work with Nexgen (instead the game will act like it isn't enabled, so you don't have to turn it off in the UTPure settings).

The extension plugin has also been updated. It now has a full server redirect option and a configuration section in the Nexgen control panel (see below).

Found a bug.. when you grab the enemy flag. It automatically says the other team has your flag when they dont.

Yeah I'm having the same issue on my server, just can't see a reason why Nexgen would be responsible for it. However if it's a bug in Nexgen I'll make sure it's fixed in the next version.

Yeah I'm having the same issue on my server, just can't see a reason why Nexgen would be responsible for it. However if it's a bug in Nexgen I'll make sure it's fixed in the next version.

no message. Just says connection failed. Someone may have kicked me by accident.. So I'm not sure. Not to worried about specs being kicked anyway lol

Is it also possible to add frag recovery for your next release?

makes sense if you have multiple game types. say server crashes on ictf and your bootMapPrefix=JB for instance.

To enable reboot the server with the last played map make sure both 'Enable Nexgen boot control' and 'Restart game on last map' are checked (don't forget to hit save). If the 'Restart game on last map' feature is enabled the other settings, such as map prefix, are ignored. Nexgen simply restarts the server with the same 'launch url' as the last game.

Nexgen does not kick/disconnect players without a message. The only way this can happen is when there was a timeout when nexgen is trying to login a new player/spectator. This however can only happen in the first 30 seconds after you just joined the server (the timeout is 30 sec).

Frag recovery is already implemented in the NexgenX plugin. If you are using this plugin and it isn't working let me know. Note however it will only save the player's score and doesn't store custom stats like those of SmartCTF. The reason for this is that support for these kind of stats can't be added without making the plugin dependent on these mods. And of course you don't wish to install SmartCTF on your server if you only host DM games. If you wish to save these stats as well you'll have to make a plugin for it. I've already made a special Nexgen plugin that is specifically designed for my server that has support for SmartCTF stats recovery. I'll be happy to share the code if you're interested.

I was also wondering the best set up with nexgen boot. For instance when the server master boots off of mlds.sh how should it boot? meaning what settings? because what happens on linux servers is after a crash the mlds reboots then nexgen will boot and thus sometimes causing the non process kill bug (linux)which ends up changing the query port of the server.

well that happened with ASC not sure if negen would have the same issues or not.

Have this on our Sniping Server.. Mainly Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch... only problem i see is no tournament mode.. which has to be set up in Webadmin or console (no button or checkbox for it on the conole, which would be sweet), but your current configuration starts the game before all peeps can flag in when playing a match.. Everything else is working great, no lag, no errors and looks nice on the server.. Is there anyway to add a tournament checkbox or fix this problem Defrost?? Thanks for all the hard work and i also sent you an email with more detail.. keep up the great work! :thumbup:

Thanks for your interest in this server controller. I've received your e-mail about it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to answer it yet as I'm very busy at the moment. I'll have a look at it this weekend, but I'm confident it won't be a problem to support tournament mode in the next version of Nexgen.

To be honest I don't know what you mean. I think ASC and Nexgen use the same way to boot a server. The command line I use in my startup script is simply 'ucc SomeMap.unr -ini=server.ini'. As soon as the Nexgen controller is being loaded it will simply abort it's loading process and does a servertravel call. No idea how ASC does it, but since I don't think there's another way it's probably the same.

I think this doesn't work with AnthCheckerC_v138. I tried to get it working one day with one of my servers and server wouldn't boot. Maybe I needed to have AnthChecker configured to see the controller but I never got that far trying to get it to function.

yeah cant wait for next release. I have been having issues on my server with setting up matches, setting a pw, pausing matches, restarting matches, and force switching maps all of these options lead to a server crash.. I dont know what im doing wrong :( other wise everything else works.. bans,kicks etc work fine

this nexgen sure runs smooth and i like alot of the features and we had tested this out with 8 members night before

but we had some issues last night and i am wondering what could be wrong

we had 24 players playing in 4 player format and there was some strange things happening, like everyone having a flag on there back, server crashing about every 2-3 minutes on average, plus players looking like they were fading, some peoples guns were missing

we were running regular tdm with no anticheat running except utpure because this was a clan member tourney.

Hi i like this mod but i have a few questions.

I run a Bunnytrack server and i had it on my server but had to stop it till i know how to fix things.

1: When map starts pings of all players go skyhigh like 1k ping.

Is this because i have like 800 maps on the server and he needs to load it or is it something else?

2:Map only starts when you hit fire.

Is there a option to stop that so map just starts after 5 sec countdown or?

Also found out its only when people join.
As soon as i joun we all get pings up to like 500 to 1000.

Or when map changes it takes about 20 sec then its all good again.

But on a populated server like mine they come and go all the time.So we have Many times high pings.

as i use server doc to start my server, i lose the logs once it reboots

if anyone has ideas on loggging the crashes using serverdoc would be much appreciated as i have tried to use all readme's and posts, i could never get it to log properly

i have used a batch file but then i don't have any way for my other clan mates to stop and start the server as they do updates for many of our mods or cheat protects, so its good for when i am around but when i out of town its hit and miss with my clan mates.

since i replaced the nexgen with asc760, i don't have any logs

Well in nexgen all admins unique id is saved in the ini of nexgen.
I think same happens to that player too.

But maybe defrost can help us out.

ps Defrost the pings went up when a admin enters the game not a player!!!!!!!!

this last for like 20 to 30 sec.

I found out on my second server with only like 50 maps that there is no lag at all when playing or joining.

So my conclusion is that if i use it on my server with 800 maps then your controller can not handle it.

Since it loads the maps, when map is changed it needs some time.

With ASC the maps only load after you hit the update doing that with ASC i get the same as with your mod.The server crashes or HIGH pings.

Is it possible for you to not load them by default, but to do it like in ASC after a click on a update maplist button or something.

We would not use it then and then it would run fine!!!

Oh yeah except for the map to start we need to fire for starting the map or is there a option to put it on/off?

Since Defrost hasn't been back in a while I'll add 2 cents...

I don't have much knowledge into Nexgen, but I do believe that the entire map list is loaded at each game's onset. 800 maps is quite the extreme, and maybe you should consider going down a few notches?

To killerbee: ASC comes with AKAv6kLog_X103, a special build of AKA that myself and Mayhem created. It does not interface with Nexgen. At this time I don't believe any version of AKA does.

because of the intergration with AKA (the player ID's are great)

till the time Nexgen had no "match" with AKA im staying on ASC.

Hi, I posted earlier about my server crashin with the Nexgen 1.05 and its a new server but now I realized whenever i do a taunt i get the 'Connection Lost' message and then the server goes....is this me or has this happened to anyone else?....oh yea, btw i do run custom sniper and RX on the server could that be the problem?

ASC ID's aren't that good... I'll be the first to tell you that the cheaters have no problems getting past it, so don't use ASC for the banning system, heh. However HostnameBan works well for this...

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I don't have time to continue the development of Nexgen for the next few months. I'm have been very busy and will be for a while, so do not expect a new release of Nexgen anywhere soon. Right now I aim at releasing Nexgen 1.06 somewhere in july. yeah cant wait for next release. I have been having issues on my server with setting up matches, setting a pw, pausing matches, restarting matches, and force switching maps all of these options lead to a server crash.. I dont know what im doing wrong :( other wise everything else works.. bans,kicks etc work fine

Thats a strange issue and I don't see how Nexgen could be responsible. However you are running quite a number of mutators (and probably also serveractors) so my guess is that 20 players is just too much for the server with all those mutators. With too much I mean there's too much data to be send to the players and this may cause such behaviour. To put it simply: unreal decides to drop less important information if the load gets too high.

Hi i like this mod but i have a few questions.
I run a Bunnytrack server and i had it on my server but had to stop it till i know how to fix things.

1: When map starts pings of all players go skyhigh like 1k ping.
Is this because i have like 800 maps on the server and he needs to load it or is it something else?

2:Map only starts when you hit fire.
Is there a option to stop that so map just starts after 5 sec countdown or?

1. Yeah this is probably caused by the fact the maplist is send to admins once they join the server. To be sure you can disable the 'match switch' tab (control panel -> server -> settings -> plugins). In the next version of the extension plugin I'll make sure the maps are send at a slower rate, which will hopefully fix this issue.

2. Currently the match can only be started by pressing fire. There is no work around right now. Rest assured that it can be disabled in the next version and you will be able to make the game start automatically after x seconds.

in ASC i've noticed that there was such a kind of integration with AKA.

In Nexgen, there isn't any... should i use some other AKA i've used
Nexgen 1.06 with the Actor AKAv6kLog_X103.u and i noticed that
there werent no new player ID since installation of Nexgen..

I'll make a custom version of AKA for Nexgen.

Since i've changed from ASC tot Nexgen i'd noticed that AKA was particulair logging the player... there were in this case no ID's generated.
so i was wondering "how" Nexgen keeps the bad guys out when i say OUT!
if it's not working with an player ID in corporation with AKA how will it then
ben done...
Nexgen generates a client ID / player ID (whatever you like to call it) like ASC. I won't go into details how this is done, but since Nexgen is open source you can easily check this out yourself. Of course this means players are able to change their client ID once they find out how the system works, rendering banning client ID useless. Unfortunately ASC suffers from the same issue (although it uses a different system for generating the ID's) and it impossible to make this system 100% secure from within unreal script. The only possibility is to use native code for this, but this has some disadvantages as well, since for example players would need to install a DLL like with UTDC. Therefore it would be better if the developers of UTDC would add client ID generation to UTDC (since installing one DLL is already too much imho). I've already shared some thought about this with Matthew/MSuLL and maybe one day we'll develop a new system for this together once we find the time.

I've released Nexgen 1.06 a bit earlier then expected. However don't get ur hopes up, because I haven't had the time yet to implement the requests I've received so far. In fact this release just contains the changes I made a while ago. However since it contains some important bug fixes I decided to release it earlier instead of waiting until I've had the time to implement the requests made here. So you'll still have to wait till july for that.

Maybe this can only be done only by admins. All the other players die if they change teams. I am part of a sniper clan and a lot of times i need to change players during TDM but it will cause a loss of a point. Good point on the red player with red flag.

No problemo, just look under Game -> Moderator. There should be a button 'Set name' that will do the job ;)

Hmmm never have seen that problem before. Are you sure you did not accidentally switch to a map which the server wasn't able to load (because of a missing package)? Anyone else that has the same problem?

Actually I think it's not such a good a idea at all to prevent players from dying as this might cause very serious issues for various game types. Instead it's probably better to add an option to restore a players score once a player is switched by an admin.

This is what happens brother Defrost..
We see all the maps in the Map Switching Tab.. highlight and click switch.. The map actually switches on the server and does not crash.... but everyone on the Server loses connection.. and has to hit reconnect to server from there UT menu.. "There is no crash at all on the server"

The reboot for us works great.. server travel is good and everyone stays connected to the server.. .. I hope that helps clear up my post abit.. If anyone else is having this issue.. please post.. as it may be end up being an issue with my server on my end.. thanks all and have a Super day brother Defrost. :thumbup:

I'll have a look at your requests, maybe I'll add them to the next version, but no promises. As for the Nexgen HUD not working with UTPure, this is a known issue. However there is no fix because UTPure will simply prevent mods from using their own HUD. As soon as you change it, UTPure changes it back. So unfortunately you'll have to live with this.

P.S. UTPure sucks! :mad:

I noticed with using passwords for User Levels that contain:

Will work when logging in right away, but when the server switches matches this is no longer possible. I already figured out this is because of the code schemes (At least highly suspect that's the culprit). This is located in the nexgen.ini.

It's easily solved by not using those characters in a password and stick to 0-9, a-z, A-Z.

Just felt like dropping it on you.

There's a huge bug in the last release right now.

The previous ban will be OVERRIDDEN by the next one.

I just banned 2 botters and it only stored one (Forever ban).

I reproduced it and it seems it always overrides.

The first ban is made in the last slot (bannedName[31]= bannedIPs[31]= bannedIDs[31]=)

I guess that's got to do with it.

Defrost: Although I have to admit it's got a lot of improvements over ASC, I'm going to use ASC until that bug, and the flash effect is gone.

Sorry, but since most botters are dynamic and ID's are (Even though not 100% secure) better than just IP's. Aside from that, it's got more of a disadvantage for players (Due to the flash) than an advantage.

I also like to add that ping is increased by about 10-20% (Even though the server CPU is at less than 5%) than when using ASC. This probably has to do with the chat system. (You claim UTPure blocks different kinds of huds and cannot be prevented, but ASC managed to seperate the join/leave and spectator messages from the actual text.)

Another thing to add... The Teamprotection is REALLY bad and can be abused really easy. if a player gets hit by a teammate, then he's INVULNERABLE for 4 seconds by default (Hit your FC all the time?). I cannot even seem to disable the teamprotection at all, just set the seconds to 0 but still annoying messages pop up "X HAS A TEAMKILL ATTEMPT ON Z".

I'm going to stick to ASC760 for a while. I said that already but oh well.

Edit: The ban that you make also will not show up in-game in the ban control list.

Yeah this is a problem for me aswell (banning). And also, whenever I am spectating someone with behindview 0, after they die the whole screen flips upside down and remains like that, even after I go to another player and come back to that player. But the banning error is my biggest concern.

That's a normal UT bug, unless you mean it happens to every player after every time they die. Normally this is caused by teleporter usage and headshots.

No that has absolutely nothing to with it. I also highly doubt Nexgen will increase the ping by that amount. The amount of data transferred by the Nexgen system between it's clients is most of the time 0.

Thats because ASC doesn't replace the HUD, Nexgen does (and there's a very good reason for that).

For normal games the team kill protection should indeed be disabled. To disable the team kill protection set it to 0. I'll make it 0 by default. Instead of using team kill protection you should use the push protection.

...but still annoying messages pop up "X HAS A TEAMKILL ATTEMPT ON Z".
Then disable those messages, there's an option for that...

I was mentioning the ID's related to that ban issue, I was aware of the ID system.

You also mentioned this to be Open Source in the OP.

I still don't like the flash effect, most players don't even bother trying to figure it out since, to them, ASC offers the same without the hassle and the annoying rainbow. If you're not thinking about changing it then it's no use talking about this anymore.

Hopefully I have addressed most of the requests I've recieved so far. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. In case I have missed something please let me know and I will try to add it to the next version.

A lot of changes have been made to Nexgen 1.07. Since I didn't had the time to test this version extensively it is quite possible that some new bugs have been introduced by this version. Please let me know when odd things are happening :P

These are the changes made in Nexgen 1.07:

I had this problem manifest itself from time to time when (a very old version of) ZP was active. I ended up making a clientside mutator that would execute the consolecommand "reconnect" upon map switch. It worked great and no one noticed a thing. These days I no longer run ZP.

So far you're the only one I know of that has that problem. The map switch function works fine on my server at least. What happens when u try to switch a map with MapVoteLA13 (in the middle of the game) does that work alright for you? Also do you have msn so we can talk a bit easier and I can help u solve this problem?

Looks like I'm a bit late to the party, but I've just installed this on one of my servers and I'm really really loving it, great job!

I do have a request!

Could there be a toggle to output player joins and info to external programs, such as a reporter bot, without them going to the console? We use this for stats and to track players. This is something Anthchecker does very well.

Output something like:

Playername IP GUID Players_NexGEN-ID

I've noticed since version 107 release my windows based servers crash alot but my linux based servers run great. I'm no coder so your guess is as good as mine.

Problem is there is no error generated. It just crashes the servers. I remove the it no crashes at all. Wish I had a better explination.

Anyway I went back to using ASCv760 and it still crashes the server but alot less than NSCv107. I been trying to think of what both these admin tools have in common and frag recovery is the only thing I can think might be responsible but thats just a guess.

Actually I just had another idea cause frag recovery was on NSCv106 and it never crashed much. Now I think of it this could be an issue between AKA cause NSCv107 added support for AKA and boom crashes. Maybe AKA actor needs to be in the serverpackage line up differently. Hmmmmm, trial and error is all I can do I guess. But wait my Linux server doesn't crash so its just back to win based server issue. I'm lost now.:(

Removing aka server actor from my MH server has produced much less crashes. I then looked over my INI on my linux based server and noticed I had placed the aka server actor after the Nexgen server actors. This might be a solution but I'm not totally convinced yet.

Unfortunately my win2003 based servers have a wierd setup and adding the server.log to command line is not an option.

I'll keep trying to figure this out by trial and error and if something comes up I'll report it. I have a few coders in my community and maybe they can fix the bugs for me.

By the way TheManNo1 is back to coding his Psycho-X mod and we are testing it out on my new UT99 server. If anybody is curious about this mod it was based out of the SLV code.

Server will be listed in my signature.

I have version 1.07 running on 6 servers loaded on a Windows Server 2003 box and have experienced absolutely no problems at all. I even managed to dump a few mutators off the server because NSC handles the chat logging and such. Great job!:thumbup::thumbup: I'm very happy with this little item.

I'm thinking I fixed it. I was originally using AKAv6kLog_X103 but switched to AKAv20kLog_X103 instead. There has been no reports of crashes since then.

As for ASC I removed it from all my servers and now running Nexgen107 on all of them.

I did have one question about the server redirect. Before it would say unreal://**.***.***.**:7777 but now it just says unreal://**.***.***.**:7

Why would it cut off the last three 7's in the address?

Now that you mention it, it does do that on mine as well. Since all my servers use the default port, I just left the port off. Don't know if it still works though. I'll find out this afternoon during peak hours. Have a good one.

OK. I had to totally remove NexgenV107 from my MH server. It just would randomly crash in the middle of a game even just after restart. I give up and might revert back to v105 just so my admins can keep out the scum.

V106 worked fine but bans wouldn't stick. I'm convince between aka,nexgenv107, and MH there is something very wrong. Unfortunately I get no logs reporting the problem. I can't be the only server admin with this issue.

Well I would like to help you to fix this problem, but as you probably already know without logs that's gonna be very hard. If you think it's the AKA logger, then try disabling it (if you haven't tried it yet) to see if it is really caused by the AKA logger.

I'll also have a look at the server redirect URL cutoff.

Nexgen 1.08 will probably be released this month.

I've also been contemplating that maybe my server is under DOS attack. I just got off the server a minute ago and my admin said its still crashing just not as much. I need a good server.log system so I can get a real good idea of whats causing the crashes before I go to the provider and have it monitored for dos attacks. I can't really see ppl getting sore about MH cause its all about fun you would think.


If anybody can help me find a good logger for a win2003 based UT99 server that would help me alot.

What are you on about? I already told you before: just add -log=server.log to the commandline of your server and there you are. If this is not possible, ask your hosting provider to do it for you. A (D)DoS attack on your server would cause extreme lag and bandwidth usage. If it had been going on for an extended period of time, I'm sure your ISP would have warned you/terminated your account for "excessive bandwidth usage" (my ISP did when I was being DDoS'ed for a few hours). So all in all that's highly unlikely.

You probably have some bad mutator running. If you cannot enable logging, then you should run your server with only the bare essentials and then if it no longer crashes, add mutators back one by one (repeat process). But this is hardly feasible on a live server... Just log!!

Yah, I already started removing mutators one by one. I really think Nexgen has nothing to do with it personally cause the rest of my servers run fine with it. I'll find a way to get it to log eventually but in the perameters of my command line for this server I don't see that option. Gonna call provider today about this.


Thanks for enlightening me about the DOS theory and hope to have a solution soon.

And btw, Monsterhunt is a very crashy mod. 2-5 crashs a day are normal.
I run a MH server now 2 years and It crashes a lot!

I had a much experience with that mod mixed with other mutators. MH is very sensitive. Dont know why. More mutators brings more crashs. Dont know why.

Well you must be the destination MH admin huh. I've been on your server before and is pretty cool. I think your right about MH being sensitive and your most likely right about the more mutators the more crashes.

I tried to talk my coder into fixing the little bugs in MH but he said that he didn't want to touch MH cause its coding looked masterful as it is.

Anyway thanks for the reply and knew I wasn't the only server admin to have a crashy MH server.

These are the only crashes I get on my servers (about once or twice a day) ~not related to NSC!~:

I think your right about that. I finally got the server running stable after fresh aka20k.ini and removed the hitsounds that that smiling monsters admin made for me.

NexgenV107 is not responsible for the MH server crashes and look forward to Defrost's next release. Good work again Defrost and thanks for the hard work.:thumbup:

Do you mean user accounts? If so, the maximum is 32. It will be increased in Nexgen 1.08 to 48 accounts, but I can't increase it much further else it won't compile anymore :S

No awesome new features, mostly just bug fixes.

Changes in Nexgen 1.08:
- Fixed: Typing prompt being cleared once the Nexgen client initializes.
- Fixed: Player lists in the control panel being empty because of some rare bug in the Unreal Engine.
- Fixed: Root admin login would give the player all privileges while some shouldn't be given.
- Fixed: Login security issue when a player has a modified/hacked Nexgen package.

It seems since i installed 108 that the server is flipping every few sec like it does not have a connection.

The little red lag square is coming in the screen is it because of 108 or?

Maybe because the amount of members that can be set now to 128 instead of 48.

How many accounts have you used? And are you able to open the Nexgen control panel?

Please check the server and client logs if you see any Nexgen related scriptwarnings there.

So far I haven't had reports from others having the same issue.

In the logs i can not find anything,

Accounts i used like 45 now.

Its just weird with 107 all was fine with 108 i got these lag spikes.

I dunno if its 108 related could also be the provider of my server.

Ill do some searching and calling and i hope to get a answer soon.If its not 108 ill let you know.

A buddy of mine is running a 3v3 tournament server. It's strange because when he enables tournament mode (DM or TDM), suddenly everyone spawns in with a flag attached to their back. Anyone else had this problem?

There must be something else preventing it. I can change peoples names just fine without a reconnect or anything of the sort. There is a line in the Nexgen.ini that says: allownamechange=false. Try changing that to true and see if you have the same issue.

Check the setting of MaxNameChanges in the [Engine.GameInfo] section of your servers config file. Not sure if this is the source of your problem, but it was set to 0 on my server by default and blocked all name changes.

Brother Defrost.. was doing some testing tonight on what was making those flags appear on the backs of players.. . We are using Webadmin 097b by Rush.... When the webadmin is set up for non-tournament Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch, I can set the Nexgen up ingame for 2v2 or 3v3.. set max players and click tournament and then restart.. we get no flags on the backs of the players.. but when i use a preset Quickset tournament config in Webadmin for 2v2 or 3v3 then restart the server, then we are get the flags on the backs of players..

I wanted to get this info to ya as i hope it helps with your new version release..

There is one other small problem we noticed also .. Not using the webadmin quickset and having the game set up in Normal Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch there seems to be a double start when using Tournament mode.. This problem went away when we unchecked the box.. "Let Nexgen handle the game start".. If you uncheck the box.. you get the countdown from 10 and a good start.. If the box is checked, we were getting a double start..

Not sure if this pertains to anyone else out there.. just thought we would get some info to ya to help resolve any issues in time before your next release.. Hit me on msn if ya like to see it first hand brother Defrost.. thanks again for a super job and the great work in advance sir! :thumbup:

There's a new plugin for Nexgen available, called Nexgen Global Login System (like UTGL) and is intended for servers that have to deal with a lot of cheaters.

Here's a short description:
The Nexgen Global Login System is a plugin for the Nexgen Server Controller that allows admins to filter the players that enter their server by requiring the players to login before they can play on the server. The logins are checked with a local or remote database that contains the accounts of the registered players. This database can be anything, ranging from a general community forum to a dedicated NGLS master server. Because the accounts are stored on a central server it possible to easily ban a player from all your servers if they access the same NGLS database server.

There's an auto pause option in Nexgen. But it only works when you set the server in match mode.

I believe the request lety is trying to make is they want the ability to have nexgen obey the MaxPlayers setting in the server's INI instead of having to use the one in Nexgen's configuration settings.

If the 2 players are members and one has rights, once both people have joined, all the person with rights has to do is check the box for "Lock the teams". It doesn't matter at that point what the settings are anywhere. No one else can join as a player. It automatically forces anyone else who joins to spectator only if you have spec slots reserved. Have a good one.

1st thing i must say: This Utility is the best I've ever seen, awesome work. A lot of hours have been invested in it and it does show .. Haven't had a single problem with it so far.

2nd thing i must say: I'm lazy, and I haven't read all the pages in this thread, so if my request have been made b4 please don't hit me too hard.

3rd thing i must say: A request ...... To make the utility perfect in my eyes it would need a UTDC control interface ... I like how ASC can fire a screenshot on players, and as I'm lazy I get tired of typing in all the console admin commands. Could it be possible to make such control panel where all UTDC's features can be triggered on/off by the click of a button?

Sure it's possible to add such a control panel. I'll put it on my todo list for the next version of NexgenX. However I don't have much time available anymore to be coding stuff for UT, so it will probably take a while before a new version will be ready.

pour que l'on soit pas obliger de passer par le mod match.

AVEC le mapvotela13 c'est le mapvote.ini qui gère tout les modes donc ça serai plus simple de pouvoir activer l'autopause avec un bouton. De plus si tu pouvais faire en sorte que nexgen tienne compte des modifications de slots qui sont dans le mapvotela.ini pour qu'on soit pas obliger de le modifier a chaque wars ça serai bien.

so there is not obliged to go through the mod match.

WITH the mapvotela13 is mapvote.ini which manages all modes so it will be easier to be able to activate the autopause with a button. In addition, if you could ensure that nexgen takes into account changes in slots which are in the mapvotela.ini that is not to compel change each wars it will be good.

you should also put a button for MODE TOURNAMENT and AUTOPAUSE
so there is not obliged to go through the mod match.

WITH the mapvotela13 is mapvote.ini which manages all modes so it will be easier to be able to activate the autopause with a button. In addition, if you could ensure that nexgen takes into account changes in slots which are in the mapvotela.ini that is not to compel change each wars it will be good.

There's an option to disable / enable tournament mode in the match control tab. Also what exactly should the autopause do when a the game isn't in match mode?

As for the playerlimits, sorry I can't take in account the mapvote settings without ugly constructs so that's not something I'm willing to do. If you really want it that way you could make a plugin for Nexgen.

Sure it's possible to add such a control panel. I'll put it on my todo list for the next version of NexgenX. However I don't have much time available anymore to be coding stuff for UT, so it will probably take a while before a new version will be ready.

Hey defrost i had some questions from players on my server about the login.

People with indows have no problems but with linux they need to manualy go to the site.

Can that be fixed?

Another is a player made a remakr about using parameters in nexgen so it automaticaly sighns you up on the site or something.
What he meant i dunno lolz.

1.

2. If you have a server that is set up so that MapvoteLA handles the slotnumbers (eg. 3v3 4v4 5v5 and 6v6 coloumns), NSC overrides the slotnumber. Not like ASC:
NOTE : If you set MaxPlayers to 0, ASC will read the maxplayers from your server's INI file instead

This will mean that after tournament mode has been disabled, you will have to manually reset the MaxPlayers limits in your server's INI file.
Something similar solution would be nice or these servers can't be used with NSC (mostly matchservers).

Johnny, how do you change your MaxPlayers setting? From mapvote or something (the servertravel lines)? iDeFiX came out with this a while back called ServerMode:

Currently Mapvote changes the slotnumbers:

Maybe I'll take a look at servermode, but I would be pleased if and ASC-like handling was possible (setting playerSlots=0 in NSC doesn't do the trick now).

Edit: I did, and it requires adminlogin to change mode, whilst with mapvote, ppl just vote and they can play without any priviliges on the server.

bloody awesome Auth System m8 :) keep it up please!!! , I have setup up my nz server using this and along with x3dfxmapvote she works a charm.... no probs yet to report (or features to add) as yeat either, you seem to have covered just about everything.

I know you've said earlier in here that you wouldn't add a config entry to disable the flashing text effect by default, but can I ask you to reconsider?

I love Nexgen. A significant percentage of my users, however, don't. I think the main reason for that is the flashing text effect which is distracting when playing.

I agree it's very easy to disable, but even some of my admins didn't find the tickboxes by themselves. Without being able to disable that by default, I think I'm going to have to remove the HUD entirely, which is a shame imo; filtering chat from actions is a great feature.

So please, reconsider?

That kicking is with the login system you mean?
If so i had it too i reported it to defrost it seems the login does a double rqeust then its jams somehow its on the top of his todo list i think.

Yup thats the one, sometimes when Logging in myself it resets and tries to login a second time without logging out the first time so when I login the second time it logs in as player2 etc. Sometimes it displays a dialog that says that the user name is already in use etc, however this happens rarely.

My main concern is that a couple of users will login and then after 5secs get kicked and this will happen over and over again , till they give up normally 2-4 times :|. It is the nexgen system as I have systematically gone through and dissabled UTDC and they still had probs, so I re-enabled utdc and dissabled nexgen... No probs for them to get in. They the clients get the Time out , Dissconnected (Reconnecting in 10sec's) red dialog.

Iam sure this is a minor problem.

Well you just need to disable the login or enable that every local nexgen account is allowed and disable the kick function if they not get veryfied.

Till the problem is solved then enable it again and your done.

But we have to wait for a fix when he has the time for it.

Trying this over ASC. Seems to be pretty nice, I like the layout better than ASC but ASC seems to have a lot more features. I did add the plugin for this also, which adds something I really couldn't go without (redirection)

Some things I would like to see added.

Ability to send player(s) to a different server. I like this, because when I need to shut the server down for maintenance, or want to password it for a match, I can just send the players to secondary similar server, so they wont just get disconnected.
Ability for players to set a "team" when they join the server (similar to ASC) lot of my players use this. Not really important, but they are asking me about it.

Ugly interface? I think the interface is better than ASC IMO, the layout seems better, just taking some getting used to since I've used ASC for so long.

Not to mention Matthew..who's worked on ASC code would know if the code is the same or not...really not providing enough proof to backup your claims buddy.

For the same reason mutate bdbmapvote menu opens the MapVote screen on virtually every MapVote out there? ;) Ok this isn't an entirely correct comparison, since pretty much all MapVotes are derivatives of the original BDBMapVote, but still it shows that some commands become so common they are incorporated in completely unrelated products for the sake of familiarity.

For example, on my server I support the command !OPEN which tells people which commands are available, since I don't run a server controller :)

If your server is still saying "... to open ASC" make sure you completely removed ASC. Sounds like you still might be running both!

Sometime when I get more free time I'm kind of planning on releasing an "ASC Plug-In Pack" which would give Nexgen some of the old functions that were in ASC, like the teams thing and some other misc stuff. Might be something I can cook up over the holidays.

Grossly incorrect. The maker of Nexgen (Defrost) and I have a longstanding background. I was planning on writing a new system to replace ASC from the ground up called "UAS". That's when Defrost privately informed me he was planning on writing one... and he's a far better coder than I, so I gave him my full support, which included what all he needed to make Nexgen respond to ASC commands (like the old keybind, and some !commands) to make the transition from ASC to Nexgen seamless. But Nexgen does not contain any old ASC code (trust me, I know the source of both like the back of my hand these days). Defrost has my full support and after 1 more bugfix release of ASC I'm going to be finished, and Nexgen will be the only system I code for and support.

I don't know what makes you think that, but Nexgen has been written from scratch. I haven't copied or 'ripped' any code. Since Nexgen is open source you can easily verify that.

The source code is included in the .u files. There are several ways to view it, one is by opening these files in UnrealED.

Might be a good idea. Because I'm having problem with my rebuilt Nexgen108.u file after changing the default value of flash message. This worked, but then my nexgen control panel didn't want to show any player nor account type in the listboxes, don't know why.

Just extract the source from UED. If you cannot do this, you probably shouldn't be making modifications...

Sort of. All the "Plugins" on the first post are... well... plug-ins; so just rip open one of those and it's quite easy to figure out. Defrost comments really well and it makes all the difference.

No I don't, since I don't want other people to create their custom versions. If someone want to experiment with the code thats fine, they can send me an email requesting the source files and explain what they intend to do with it. In my opinion any improvement made shouldn't go into a spin off version, but should be available in the official version so everyone can benefit from it.

For special needs there's the plugin system. Nexgen offers a rich framework and extensive plugin support. There's currently no template available (I'll make one later), however like Matthew said you could use one of the plugins found in the first post in this thread as a template.

I've received a lot of requests to make the message flash effect disabled by default. So since v1.09 it has been disabled by default. If you wish to use the flash effect, goto client->settings, to enable this feature again.
If you wish to let MapVoteLA13 control the number of player slots, enable the 'variable slots' option in server->settings->general. Enabling it, will however disable admin and vip slots.
You can now display ping and time remaining status boxes on your HUD (as seen in EUT). To enable them goto client->settings.

That's odd, works just fine on my server. If it is caused by Nexgen then it has to be the server performance optimizer. Try if disabling it helps (you'll have to restart the server). But other than that I see no reason for Nexgen to be responsible for these crashes.

It appears the server optimizer doesn't work with AnthChecker. So if you're running that on your server, disable the server optimizer (it is enabled by default).

i've kicked Anthchecker from my servers, and put UTpure on now...
no problems at all after all, even my Monsterhunt server runs fine on Nexgen 1.09 good work @<hidden> all Defrost.

Admin.. have you checked to see if you maxed out on the amount of Server Packages and Server Actors that you can have on the server.. I once reached a limit (think it was like 50 or so) and the server crashed.. I removed one server package and then the server ran.. the only reason i suggest this is that NexgenCC is the first server package your server is trying to run.. Just a thought buds.. but try commenting out a different package and see if NexgenCC runs.. Best of luck to ya mate..:thumbup:
