I voted UT for the funny hours that it gave to me ;) nut in the other hand i think that UT2k4 has a very very good gameplay...

i would vot UT because it has so many mods and muts but overall i chose UT2K3 because it is coming along and i like the new taunts and graphics... plus the players are so muche more real looking.... screw triangels lmao

For a Single Player experience, nothing beats the loneliness and desolation of the first Unreal game: I can still rembember the awe I felt when I first went off the Vortex Rikers and most of all, the first time I engaged in combat against those first brutes!! Man, were those tough oponents (for a Q2 player)!!

However for Multiplayer experience, whether it be team based or solo, UT99 is sitll the best IMHO, yeah UT2K4 is really getting there, but UT99 has that feel to it, that well it made me choose it.

ya, ut99's a really great single player experience. one of the best sp-games i've ever played.

but in mp, i'd prefer ut04. it's much faster than ut99 (ok, a bit slower that ut03), it has many game modes, some new ones, a great community. and, of course, cool music tracks :cool:

I'm a long time IG player... and UT99 IG has a pace and a flow that could not be replicated in 2k4. This isn't to detract from 2k4, and I'll say that I still play both 2k4 and 99, but for IG play 99 is preferred here.

I voted for Unreal, because nothing felt more unreal than that game.. Each encarnation of UT has moved further and further away from its roots, and dont share the same atmosphere unfortunatley :(.

I think UT2004 is a better game than UT, however... I have many more fond memorys of playing UT than any other game.. I was addicted for many years :)

I run servers for both and have fun in each! Its kind of like this...
On the one hand you have your old reliable loyal wife, feels good is comforatable and you know her inside and out on the other hand you have your hot new exciting lover/mistress that offers new excitment and experiences! Yeah I know I need a life... just my analogy! The comment about the IG above umm.. I do not necessarly disagree but I am running 135/35 Low G IG CTF on the mapvote in UT2k4 and it's helluva fun!

Certainly UT. When I take a look at Epic's latest releases and try to read out their new philosophy I can easily state that UT will never be reached.
Good luck Epic with creating all those wannabe ID games every once a year, you should better have sticked to the mod you kind of "created" which is NW CTF including a Translocator.

Oh and btw although I agree that UT is called UT and not "UT1" or "UT99": It's not in Italics because of that, but because it was your vote. ;)

For me it was all the game in unreal.
Both single and multiplay was fun :)
Before i played Quake2 ,doom and wolfenstein but unreal was a new expierience.
The first 3 shooter with 3d sound.
Ut2004 i play now, it's nice too lot's of game modes wich is very nice.
But when i look at the new added content in game i still say unreal the first release.

I remember, on my old Mac, stepping off the Vortex Rikers bustin' caps in the brutes with the auto mag, (at least i think that's what it was called) was an astounding experience, Unreal was WAY ahead of it's time. If only I still had a Mac...
I feel bad for Unreal II, no one's said anything about it. Unreal II really is a cool game, it's just that it isn't a typical Unreal game in the unreal style. However, it's not that far off. You're still able to blow dead bodies to bits with a charged up dispersion pistol.
And Unreal II XMP is really fun, it's just that no one has Unreal II so no one has XMP. If more people played it, there's be more mods. The creators of XMP going out of business also made it take a hit. But just about every time I play XMP, either something totally awesome or completely hilarious happens, and the people who play XMP add to the funnness (funnlieness, funnisticism?) of it, they're not a bunch of psychos and serious fanatics/dimwits that many popular multiplayer games have in them. And, since not that many people play XMP, almost in every server there's someone I know.

Started out with UT, it got me hooked to online gaming, was extremely dissappointed in both Unreal2 and UT2k3, but now switched to UT2k4.. so was gonna be a choice between the 2, and it ended up being the "hot new exciting lover/mistress" ;)

You made me laugh with comments about mapvote. Try to find servers without it. :)
As for IG, without any doubts, UT99 is the best IG ever. Quake tried to do that right too, but they fell far from the target. 2k3 and 2k4 are far from original gameplay as well. Slow moves, huge hitbox, terrible, ugly rag dools AKA "running scissors" and "flying corpses" AKA playing death.
Thanks god, M Rain was actually listening to us when we were begging him to get "team boosting" back into the game. His first response was "What's boosting?" :) Epic knows how to work on their own mistakes. But they have no idea why Insta was so popular and 2/3 UT99 servers are still IG. And unfortunately Cliffy hates IG and LowG. :(

Look at how long UT has been going strong. That says it all. Quake2K4 wouldn't be quite so bad had they not come up with the magic pills and the invisibility garbage among other things, like timing on the teleporter way different than it was in UT, etc.

I would always and have voted UT, 2kx versions are rubbish, dodgy cartoony gfx, bad vehicles, terrible coms and stupid system requirements all in a game that actually a lot less fun to play than UT, I suspect Epic are better at writing Engines than designing good games, OLD SKOOL!!!!

UT is the best (and its the only one i can run!) because its more simple and just brewed for plain bloodshed. I dont mind the other UTs, their more challenging with more things to do. But UT is my faviroute.

I really thought when UT was dropped from ngWorldStats it was the beginning of the end. But I've been pleasantly surprised and UT has hung in there well.

The survey tells the story... even today it's getting nearly as many players, servers, and votes as the latest.

I am not complaining, but UTPG taking on such a tough set of "enhancments" in this next revision is disappointing. UT needs some work on the DirectX renderer to bring it into compliance with the latest hardware more than any other alteration.

Most of us admins are dealing with the cheat problem using present means. Better anti cheat can wait for the basics, in my humble opinion.

Anyway, UT has a dynamic that still isn't there in UT2k4. Sure, the scenery is more lush and the character graphics way better. But it sacrificed player movement, feel and weapons familiarity in the process.

The UT-scene has gone through many changes but is still going strong.
If you compare it with UT2004, it will not last as long as UT simply because in UT2004 most clans are lame, even more lame then in UT.This means that in a competitive way UT2004 will lose its attraction for people that wanna play on CB but also with fun. UT2004 + CB + fun = nearly impossible . UT + CB + fun = possible (even tho you got some rotten apples).

I have played UT GOTY since it first came out, and I hated the gameplay in 2003, nice eye candy, but slow gameplay, UT2004 has nice eye candy once again, but the flow of gameplay is slower due to this, the newer faster computers are once again just making UT99 better and better to play. So UT99 wins my vote!!!
