[UT2004/Release] Lock Rolloff
 
In UT2004 there is a client-side sound setting controlling, how the volume of sounds falls of when moving away from the sound source. This so-called Rolloff value can be changed in UT2004.ini and with a console command in a way that allows to clearly hear sounds from the opposite side of the map.
"Lock Rolloff" is a server actor that enforces a minimum rolloff value of 0.4 (the default INI value is 0.5) and additionally makes it impossible to change Rolloff while connected to the server.

This server actor is already running on the inUnreal.de 1on1 Server and can be downloaded either in the UnrealAdmin.org download area or from my homepage.
Since Lock Rolloff is not a mutator, it will not prevent your server from being "standard".

I don't understand how some people can play using this setting. Sure, you can hear what's going on the other side of the map, but you can't estimate distance at all.

You could create a keybind that temporarily lowers rolloff to e.g. 0.1 after killing the opponent in a 1on1 to hear, where he respawns. This server actor is supposed to prevent exactly that.

Hey,

I am a crew member of a deaf LAN party ( http://mmdl.swda.org/ ) and a friend pointed me to this mutator. Since we play fair on that lanparty for both deaf and hearing people, we have always asked hearing people to not use sound and to refrain from using headsets. This has worked fine so far, but it's nice to have more control over it and maybe this mutator can help us? Is it possible to totally turn off client-side sound with this mutator from the server?

No. This ServerActor is not configurable and will only prevent clients from hearing more than they should by default. They can turn down the volume or increase the rolloff factor if they want, but there's no way to enforce it with this ServerActor.

well, is this tool useable for "SAS: into the lions den" too? since we tried it, but didn't seem to work.
