the instructions on how to even use this mod are ridiculous. half the info on how to properly get it to work is not in the readme.. I personally gave up on it.

I will have to see the error exactly to know what the issue is.
What information is not included in the readme to get it to work? As far as I know it's all there.

Many thanks to Sp0ngeb0b for his help, he helped me fix the utstats 4.2.8.1 version. the problem i was having was the import page did nothing even if debug was enabled. I replaced this file ftp.php from the old utstats and it works perfectly fine now! rork you may want to include this file in your old package or make a new .rar

well first of all there are 234234 install files and versions updates patches etc. that alone is confusing.
what we need is what BASE version to install. Then patches updates etc. then how to import and get the process going please and thank you
edit: its seems the readme I got from one of the file repository sites wasn't complete. Im attempting this install again today

The version in the OP is the full, standalone version to install a fresh copy.

im reading the instructions and this is where I get lost.
Now visit the admin area and click "Check Server Settings" near the bottom.
This will setup the database, if the tables already exist it will keep the
old tables. It will also check the file permissions.
What admin area? where is it?

ok your not going to believe this. if I made a folder called stats and moved all the html content over it doesn't work. if I move the html folder directly over to my host it works.. now I just have to rename it.
edit renaming it causes a problem. leaving it as "html" see if that works

What happens when you leave the directory stats empty and you navigate to it on your web browser? IE: Don't upload anything to the directory, but create just the directory and go to it. www.yoursite.com/stats/
What does it say?

Unable to create the temporary table - are you allowed to create tables in this database?

I created and recreated the DB user with full privileges. I even saw in the privileges that the user an create temp tables. I also tried changing this to false in the config
Quote:
$import_use_temporary_tables = true; // set to true if available

My web host is not the same as the server host
edit: tried using my server hosts web and same error as above

Are you absolutely certain you are logging in with the correct database user and they do, indeed, have the ability to create tables?
Does your host use CPanel?

Oh you were having issues importing log files. I thought we were still installing UTStats.
Also it's best to link directly to the post. Not everyone uses the same settings. That post is on page 1 of this topic for me.
What version of PHP are you running?
