Default HOWTO: run your sever behind a router

You need to do two thing:
1. Setup port forwarding
2. Edit your hosts file w/ your external IP addy

1. Forward the following two ports:

7777/UDP (or whatever server port you're running on)
27900/UDP (I think this allows communications to the main servers to display your server in their lists)

2. Follow the instructions in this post.

Simply add your external IP addy to your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts like this:
Code:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx PCName
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your EXTERNAL (i.e. real) IP addy and PCName is the name of your PC running the ut3 server.

That should do it!

Same, this multihome thing (or lack of) is killing our servers.

...though the main thing was the crashes sitting waiting for reporting to M$ ate up memory on the servers until there was none left and it resorted to paging memory.

That was the point at which I gave up and went back entirely to UT2004 even to play.

The solution for this issue is trivial. However, I believe you in particular would be better off with Linux.

So trivial you couldn't be bothered to type it?

No, I just strongly believe that switching over to Linux as the server platform is a much better solution for you.

Piglet, did you disable error reporting on the server?
Right click computer, properties, advanced tab?

Thanks - but I pretty much gave up on the demo anyway. No point in running servers people can't join unless they know the WAN ip and know how to use the console..

I got this to work under Windows and edited the first post teaching how to do it. Enjoy!
