UTR Alpha Released
The UTR mod development team proudly presents the Alpha preview release of the first full-conversion of Unreal Tournament Game of The Year Edition to Unreal Engine 2.5 (aka UT2004) : Unreal Tournament Revolution.
UTR v569a has the core features and gameplay in, and aims to be a solid base upon which we can tweak and upgrade with the help of the UT community to become the true continuation of the legend that began it all. Combining the vastly improved netplay and visual features of UT2004 with the classic feel and atmosphere, UTR Alpha Release includes the return of such weapons as the Dual Enforcers, Impact Hammer, and Ripper. Our upgraded Flak Cannon should also give you a small taste of what is being planned for the Beta stages...

I've always dug the music with the original game too. The tease of remixes will be enough to get me to bite.

It is very nice, and is actually quite fun... but as for the entire 'original feeling of UT' stuff... we'll that's a little far fetched. Good though, very good - and quite enjoyable (and I was surprised that it wasn't more buggy than it was, especially for an alpha release).

May be the only workable approach...
Before I say my piece, let me state that I have no inside information (on UTPG) whatsoever, so don't credit me with starting any rumors.
That having been said, it seems obvious that UTPG is at least an ENDANGERED entity, if it hasn't died out already.
I guess the notion of maintaining UT99 is just too much to expect from a volunteer group. Add to that the fact that the effort runs contrary to the monetary interest of the game authors at EPIC, if it were to succeed. It seems less and less likely that it could be resurrected. This idea, of taking a more up-to-date version of the engine and correcting (aka - REMOVING) the 2k4 "improvements" by replacing them with the original weapons, physics and advantages of the 99 variant is quite probably a more achievable venture.
However, there are hurdles.
- MAPS - If tools to translate the old maps to 2k4 engine format were available, it would accellerate the motivation behind UTR to the point of a runaway train.
- Weapons - Clearly, even if the MAPS can be partially translated using tools, the "special" weapons (Strangelove?) and other unique tools of battle are another matter. It seems unlikely that these would be satisfactory if they were translatable. The only alternative being to "re-invent" them by manual coding efforts.
- MODS - Each of us has our favorite. In large part these have already been addressed by the UT2k4 community. Those remaining, may simply be "lost concepts".
However, even if this effort runs a-ground, there's still the original (UT99) in it's current state.
So basicly: there is no downside to trying, and it just might succeed.
A Truly Great concept!
Cudos to all who participated in getting it to this point.
I guess I better start brushing up (pun intended) on my 2k4 map editing, huh?
Sign me up, I'm in.
Now where did I put those UT2k4 disks?

I like it, I very rarely play 2k4 but this mod I liked.
Only problem I have is finding players and servers.
Also shock combos seem very easy to do.

I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it last year. Glad they
finally have a release. Everyone should keep in mind that it's an alpha
release so it's not even considered beta yet. So any ideas, critisism
or other input should be directed to their forum so that it can be
made as good as it can.

Unfortunately for me.. i can't get it to run at all.
I'll try a new installation of ut2k4.. maybe that will help.

my opinion is it aint like ut,iv seen many of those ut remake maps before in ut2004 they do not work for ut`s pace and dodge ability. most are way to wide and big.
why they say it is like the old ut i dont know. it wont draw the crowd from the old game thats for sure.
what about ut2007 isent that supposed to be the update to ut?.
as a mod it will get a small following and i hope it does well. but if u want gameplay and fast pace u dont need ut2004 and this mod. just play the origional as it has some great mods already.

There were people on the first few nights, I havent seen anymore on since.
http://www.leebe.co.uk/pics/utr.jpg
^ the most players Ive seen on there, (a few familiar faces too), most of them stayed for 7-8 maps
It feels more like UT than 2k4 does and imo the scaling is a lot better. UTR>2K4

Yes, our server is having a bit of a cockup.
We're trying to get it back up, but it might be around the end of the month, possibly early Febuary until we do.
