Demo Playback Fix
Demoplayback fix (2003/05/04)
If you've watched a lot of UT demo recordings, you might have noticed that some demos refuse to play back and UT displays a "Connecting..." message as if it were trying to connect to a server that isn't available.
It seems that this is due to the fact that there are a few standard files that differ following the version of UT you've got. These are :
epiccustommodels.u
multimesh.u
relics.u
To identify which file is causing a problem, install Usaar33's demo manager and select the menu option that shows all the packages that a demo requires. Have a look at the size and compare it with the size of the file that UT is using (right-click on the file to see it's exact byte size). If the size is incorrect, shut down UT and swap the necessary files around. That is all there is to it.
If you find any other files that cause similar symptoms, get in touch :
Fearless.

Edit : Just a little note to add to this while I'm thinking about it. If you swap packages around, it's always a good idea to switch back to the most recent versions once you're finished when you wish to record some demos yourself. This is to avoid disparity in any demos that are made available to the public. I think the most recent versions are those that have the biggest size.

I have just downloaded the rar file and get errors when unpacking it. I may have a very old winrar version. Would someone direct me to a zip or post a link here to a zip file?
Thanks

I will add a zip if necessary. Give Winrar a spin though as it's quite a handy program.

What you're looking for is these files under uxx form so they can be placed in the cache folder.

You can have several versions of a package coexist if they're in uxx.

I've asked around how to get the UXX name out of a package but haven't had much luck. Give me a few days and I might be able to figure something out. And, yes, it will require editing the cache.ini.

Unfortunately, it turns out that these files share the same id. Even if they were renamed as UXX, it's not possible for them to co-exist in the cache folder. UT wouldn't know what file to use either.
I'm not sure if there's a solution. The problem as it stands is that UT will stall with a connecting message if the file is incorrect. It remains to be seen why this happens.
If it's a simple difference in code, maybe that can be solved by creating a package that has everything in it. I suspect the problem is elsewhere though.

maybe it's possible to add an option to demomanager to use different sizes of files?
i think there's 3 different sets?
so there could be options like "sizes1", "sizes2" etc... and clicking those will either copy necessary files or alternate between the folders where files are...

7zip seems to open copious amounts of formats including .rar files.
Code:
http://www.7-zip.org/
..did I mention that it's also FREE?..
IT's FREE.
will look into this later and see if I can make a demo like the one Azazel posted on YouTube.
Code:

Cheers
