![](/forums/images/UT.gif) New post at UTPG on Nov 8:
"Yes, we are still alive and working. Who would have thought getting an MD5 patch across 3 OS's would be easy...
That being said, work continues. The MD5 code for Win has been tested and seems to work great. The latest Linux build is on the way very soon.
The most important piece for all you Mac users out there is a preview release of the brand new Mac OSX client.
Unfortunately, I can't give a timeline as there could be any number of events that could push us back (and don't want to upset you with a false date).
Keep your eyes pealed for new news."

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) It's not dead at all it's just at a snails pace. (IIRC their Mac guy has a job and is too busy to even look at the UTPG code)
The patch is essentially complete for Windows but IDK if it's even necessary now, it doesn't seem to have anything to offer that the current cheat protections don't already have.

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) I don't have the current version (I know a member quite well, which is how I can make an educated guess) but IIRC md5 checks were the only main difference.

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) Would a patch be totally worthless at this point?
I'm thinking so...
And as 50BMG (who is currently on this thread with me actually) said on the UTR thread.... UT now has a chance on UT04's engine.

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) I don't think it'd be worthless. Improving the engine and making the game more secure in the actual program code as opposed to through add-ons like PURE, EUT, AnthChecker, and UTDC (to name a few) is a worthwhile endeavor. It'd also be great if UTPG could make a release that didn't destroy UnrealEd.
However, what I fear is the proposition that the new patched servers would be network incompatible with previous releases of the UT client. v436 is the norm for most players, and I'm sure most would be pretty hesitant about upgrading (especially given the problems with v440 and v451 that have caused most to revert back to v436 anyway...)

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) Well the main thing I have against it is the fact that to get compatability out to all the mods would be aweful. Think about Pure... that thing hasn't seen any work in well over a year - what do you think the chances would be that Pure would kick anyone using a new patch? Now account for how many servers use Pure... wow - you are pretty limited in that regard, unless TNSe releases the source (which I doubt would ever happen).
It's just too late for UT99. We can't depend on clients to upgrade anymore - and losing traffic would be fatal to UT. I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed but the average number of players has been declining at a pretty good rate for the last 6 months... and that has me a little worried.

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) Well, I wouldn't expect UT99 to be growing, if only for the simple fact that it's not freeware (despite the trick with the demo and no delta patch that you can do) and that it's not available readily from stores. And that's to be expected -- Epic and Atari have UT2K4 and the upcomign 2K7 to market, why would they want to encourage people to play UT99, especially since they essentially abandoned it to the UTPG group? It'd be nice if Epic could take a stance and say "okay, you can publish a full install of UT99" and make it available from UTPG.org and unrealadmin and other places, but I doubt that'll happen.
I think, however, that UT is doing pretty well considering all the adversity to it. KOA East has logged a substantial number of unique IP addresses in a relatively short period of time. I think now it's just a case of marketing the game -- difficult without the support of Epic, and perhaps a little less than legal if the only source to get the game is hacking the demo (even if with Epic's own patches).

![](/forums/images/UT.gif) Well hopefully server admins will just go out and get the patch needed.

Also NBSP and probably more protection/anticheat have a likewise fix for it.
