you can use ucc.exe for that (it's in the System dir of Unreal Tournament).
eg.

ucc decompress file.uz

Do you get an error message?

@ SixtSense: Does it also uncompress? 'cause that's what he wants

Qonquer

You can not double click ucc.exe to use it. Are you familar with DOS, and DOS Commands? If not, I can still help you.

Go to Start
then Run
and type in command or cmd
Now you will need to navigate to your Unreal Tournament System Directory, to do this you must first know where that directory is. For this, I am assuming you installed UT from the CD by default. So it will be located in C:/UnrealTournament/System/ if it is not, then use the same commands, just type the path to your directory.
You should be seeing a blinking cursor, you need to get it to the root c: drive.
To do this type cd .. just like that. Keep doing that until you see C:\> with a blinking cursor.
Now once you are at the base directory, you need to get to the ut system directory. To do so type cd unreal~1 then type cd system
Ok, so now you should see C:/Unreal~1/System/> with a blinking cursor

Now that you are in the correct location, you will need to use the ucc utility to decompress the file. You will need to know two things, 1st the location of the file you want decompressed, and 2nd the name of that file.
To do so type ucc decompress C:/UnrealTournament/Path/to/file/filename.uz

If you have any questions, or you are not sure on how to do this. Then give me the following information and I will create a executable file that you can double click and it will decompress it for you.
1.) Path to your Unreal Tournament directory
2.) Path to the file you want decompressed
3.) Name of the compressed file you want decompressed

PS
I typed this up in about 2 minutes, so I may have made a mistake. Please ask questions if you are unsure, or you get problems.

I am having a small problem with these .uz compressors....

compressalot (rubbish) firstly...

I have download several maps in a Folder called: compress-me

I open CompressAlot1 and Point it in the General Direction of UT99 (no worries)

I then point the output folder to Compressed no probs there..

I go on and load all maps/sounds/music from the Compress-Me folder and click on the [Compress] Button.

Immediately an error comes up with (can not find file) wtf?.

Next I do a quick search and come across a website , after visiting various forums - and found a program called Redirect Server Checker

Downloaded from here: http://www.brainless.us/

YAY! ........ NOT! , it requires friggin Dot Net framework (Rubbish) to be installed...... impatient as Iam atm , I figgure that ucc must be able to do batch processing (yup) but unfortunately not the way I had imagined , for example;

ucc compress c:\compress-me\*.umx
ucc compress c:\compress-me\*.unr

for some F$#%n reason ucc does-not recognise the [n]*[/n] , I really don't know what else to do at this point ... does anyone have any ideas?

Regards

Wises.

UT Compress A Lot is probably exactly what you need... it's very easy to use. But: you have to save it and run it from the root of your UT folder, ie:
C: \ UnrealTournament \ CompressALot.exe

And you should have your compress-me folder in your UT folder as well.

As for .NET framework... if you are a Windows user how have you gone this long not having it? It's hard to find a program that doesn't use it.

You can use a program to compress Unreal Tournament files for you, (there are several out there) or you can write a batch file (which is easy). This is how you write the batch file.

First, create a New Folder on your C: drive (you can use whatever drive you want to, but in this example we'll use the C: drive. If you designate a different drive make sure you change the drive letter that's in the example.)

Name this New Folder "Compress" without the quotation marks.

Next, open Notepad. (From Start Menu) Type this in exactly as shown (you can copy and paste this into Notepad if you desire. Make sure you change the drive letter if you're not using the C: drive.)

C:\unrealtournament\system\ucc compress C:\compress\*.*

Then click File, and on the drop down click Save As. Where it asks for File Name at the bottom of the screen, type in UTCompress.bat

Make sure that the folder you're saving the file TO has the same name as the one you just created called Compress.

Then the next line asks Save as type. Click the drop down arrow and click All Files.

Don't touch the encoding setting!

Finally, click Save.

One more step and you're done! Open your C:\Compress folder and find the new icon placed there. Drag it to your Desktop. Now you're done!

From now on, if you'd like to compress an Unreal Tournament file, simply place it in your C:\Compress folder and double-click your Desktop icon. Voila! You now have a .uz file which is your compressed file, along with your regular file. You need to do this for ALL Unreal Tournament files that you'd like to compress. (.utx, .unr, .uax, .umx, .int, .ini, .u)

Enjoy!

INT and INI files do not need to be compressed.....they are not downloaded by the clients.

Some *.u files do not need to be compressed either, if they are server side only mutators.

Default Decompress using mirc

I was unable to find any program to decompress uz files but using Skillz example using ucc to do it, i wrote a small script for mIRC to do it, it saves you from having to type out all that stuff each time you want to decompress something:

alias f4 {
set %decompfile $sfile(c:\,Choose File to Decompress,Demompress!)
run C:\UnrealTournament\System\ucc decompress " $+ %decompfile $+ "
}

Just press f4 in mIRC and choose the uz file you want to decompress. Then check your UT system folder for the decompressed file.
